Author Guidelines
All ASCO Annual Meeting
Education Program faculty are invited to submit
manuscripts for the ASCO
Educational Book. Invitations for manuscript submission
process are delivered in December, and manuscripts are usually due in
early January. Manuscript guidelines, deadlines, and additional
requirements are sent at the time of invitation. For general questions
about the submission process, please send an e-mail to the Educational Book
Managing Editor (edbook@asco.org).
Manuscript Guidelines
sent to authors are listed below:
Each
individual manuscript should have no more than three authors and be
no more than 3,500 words including references, which should be limited
to 30. Combined
manuscripts should be no more than
5,000 words including references, which should be limited to 50. A manuscript summary
(abstract) of 250 words
or fewer is required at the time of manuscript submission.
Disclosure
for faculty members should be
completed through the Faculty Headquarters website. The
author is responsible for obtaining reprint permission for any
previously published item (figure, table, etc.). The author also is
responsible
for associated fees.
Necessary
Elements of Manuscript
- Title
Page
- Manuscript
title should NOT repeat the session title.
Repeating titles will be changed.
- Both
authors should be listed as well as their degrees, affiliations,
and contact information (full contact if the lead author,
e-mail and phone for coauthor)
- A
running head of 46 characters or less should be provided
- Summary
- No
longer than 250 words
- MUST
be included with manuscript
- Key
Points
- 5
complete sentences illustrating the main points
- Manuscript
Body
- Individual:

files are acceptable formats
- If
your only option is to save a file as a JPEG, save it with the highest
quality setting.
- Halftone
figures must have a resolution of 300 dpi and line art must have a
resolution of 1,200 dpi; combination figures should have a resolution
of 600 dpi.
- PowerPoint
files are acceptable if easy to read and quality is good
- All
requests to use hard copies will be discussed on an individual basis
(please contact ASSO staff)
- Do
not insert figure within text of manuscript;
send with manuscript as separate attachments
- Label
in consecutive order using Arabic numerals
- An
abbreviation listing should be provided for
those figures using abbreviations (all abbreviations should be spelled
out in the order of appearance)
- A
caption should be provided for each figure
- Tables
— NOTE: At
least one figure or table should be provided with each manuscript
- Text
tables may be sent as a separate Word file or keyed in at the end of
the manuscript
- Label
in consecutive order using Arabic numerals
- An
abbreviation listing should be provided for
those tables using abbreviations (all abbreviations should be spelled
out in the order of appearance)
- A
title should be provided for each table.
Captions are optional but not required for tables
- Reprint
Permission
- Any
figure or table that is reprinted from an existing source MUST have
written reprint permission to be included in the book
- The
author is responsible for obtaining reprint permission.

- The
complete citation for the source of the material must be included in
the references
- The
wording of the printed permission line should be provided by the
original publisher
- Any
licensing fees payable to the original publisher or copyright holder
for the reuse are the responsibility of the manuscript author(s)
