Overview: The development of new treatments for small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is lagging behind. Several novel chemotherapeutic agents that are being tested in clinical trials for SCLC appear promising including amrubicin, picoplatin, and temozolomide. Targeted therapies such as angiogenesis inhibitors and bcl-2 inhibitors are also being tested. This review will discuss the rationale and updated clinical data on these approaches.
