Overview: This review focuses on novel approaches in cancer treatment as targeted therapies and synthetic lethality. We present recent advances in HIF-targeted therapy and discuss the feasibility of targeting the loss of the tumor suppressor gene von Hippel-Lindau for the treatment of renal cell carcinoma using small molecules.
