Overview: Strategies to address the disparities of cancer care experienced by underserved and minority populations should focus on education, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. A major element includes education of underserved groups regarding the resources and funding routinely available. Misconceptions regarding clinical trials and cancer research, lack of minority representation among oncologists, and other factors can be addressed to improve access to care, and are likely to yield improved outcomes.
